Sharp Knives, Raw Meat and Fire


Due to a watermelon incident involving a 5 year old trying to cut a whole melon with a table knife that ended with the watermelon falling to the floor and breaking in half, I have two quarts of watermelon juice.

Any ideas on what I can do with it?


(It’s in an old milk bottle from Sherman Farms here in New Hampshire)

  2. A bit of lime, a little more sugar than you’re likely comfortable with, and some club soda would make a wonderfully refreshing treat on a hot summer day.

  4. Well, I know it’s a bit late after looking at the post date, but should another 5 year old (or same said 5 year old) re-attempt the experiment here’s an idea for you. Instead of juicing the whole thing, scrape the melon out of the rind, freeze it in 1″ish chunks on a wax paper lined tray and use as fruit/ice cubes in blender drinks. Two of our best loved ones the watermelon-rum-lime juice-simple syrup and watermelon-strawberry-lime juice-rum-simple syrup combos.

    YUM! It’s worth tossing your kid a watermelon and telling him to have at it. (I’m assuming it was a boy who did it because that’s all I know- I have 5 sons.)
